Liverpool artist Tony Evans with one of his sculptures

This magnificent metal menagerie is the creation of Liverpool sculptor Tony Evans.

Horses, cheetah and fish fashioned from recycled copper make up this stunning exhibition.

The life-size pieces will eventually be out in the wild, set in parks and forests.

Wavertree-born Tony, 60, has chosen an unusual medium for his art, and can't just pop out to the high street for canvas and paint.

While Tony has found his vocation, it was a late change in life that took him towards his current career.

He ditched his life as an insurance agent at the age of 52 by taking early retirement and headed off back to the classroom.

Starting with GCSEs, he then passed his A-levels before doing a fine art degree at Liverpool John Moores university.

He said: "Sculpting these animals is my passion - I just wish I'd done it years ago."

A life-size eagle of Tony's is already high up in the trees of Delamere Forest, near Frodsham in Cheshire, and a giant panther is on the prowl at the Atkinson Gallery, Southport.
